LAPLACE-HC

LAPLACE-HC (HC=Haute Cadence or High-Repetition Rate) is dedicated to the development of a prototype Laser Wakefield Accelerator operating at high-repetition rate. The goal is to develop an electron source in the 50-200 MeV energy range with a robustness and stability that will enable scientific, societal and industrial applications. The facility is currently under construction and its commissioning is planned in 2024. The facility includes:

  • A 80 m2 clean room (iso 6) to host the laser
  • A high-repetition rate Ti:sapphire laser developed by Thales. Target parameters in phase I are : 100 Hz repetition rate, 200 mJ laser energy on target, < 25 fs pulse duration FWHM. In phase II (starting 2025), the goal will be to reach 1 J at 100-200 Hz, reaching 100 W of average power
  • A 50 m2 radio-protected area where the accelerator will be set-up
  • A control room

LAPLACE-HE

LAPLACE-HE (HE=High Energy) is dedicated to the investigation of novel laser-plasma based accelerators in the GeV range. The facility is currently under construction and its commissioning is planned in 2026.

The facility includes:

  • A 80 m2 clean room (iso 6) to host the laser
  • A 350 TW Ti:sapphire laser system
  • 2×200 m2 radio-protected area where up to 6 dedicated beamlines will be set-up
